Watseka man charged with criminal trespass to state land

A Watseka man will be in court May 20 on a felony criminal damage to government property charge.

Brandon J. Wood, 40, homeless, is also charged with a class A misdemeanor criminal trespass to state land charge.

According to reports from Illinois State Police, at 8:43 am. April 15, ISP Trooper 5 responded to a trespasser under the bridge on U.S. 24 over the Iroquois River.

“Wood had been previously advised to vacate the area,” reads the report. “Wood refused to vacate and was placed under arrest and transported to the Iroquois County Jail.”

Illinois Department of Transportation crews were called to move many items that were under the bridge area. Those items were then taken to the Watseka city dumpster to be disposed of. Public Works Director Loren Grosvenor said the crews worked much of the day and filled a 30-yard dumpster.

Wood is scheduled to be in court at 9:30 a.m. May 20.
